Here's to thirty years

My parents have been married for thirty years. That feat seems rare these days. And they are just as happy as the day they said "I do," that seems even more rare. I always say that my parents act like they're still in high school, and they do. They began dating in high school and were crazy about each other, just the same way they are today. It's beautiful.

Their relationship has taught me that you have to have fun, every day, otherwise a marriage will seem like work. They don't worry or argue about the little things - it's not worth it. One of the most important things they do is always putting the other persons happiness first. That seems difficult to think about doing all of the time, but it is the reason my parents marriage is unassailable.

Photo I took of my parents in Steamboat, CO.

I am unwaveringly blessed that my parents found each other and decided to spend their lives together. Every day I feel like the luckiest girl in the world because I was given a perfect family. Being adopted, there isn't a day I don't think about how different my life could have been if it wasn't for my two parents. I may not have had a loving family, I may not have grown up in a church, who knows, I may not have had the opportunity to go to college. One thing I do know is that no one in the world could inspire me or believe in my farfetched dreams as much as my parents do.

I get BIG ideas in my head and eccentric dreams that most people might find implausible. But my parents, they are by my side cheering me on saying, "Alright, let's figure out how we're going to make this happen."

A fitting quote for my parents...

"Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies."
- Aristotle
